If your monitor is not displaying anything, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue. Follow these steps in order to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check the Basics:

  • Ensure the monitor is properly plugged into a power source and turned on.
  • Double-check that the monitor's cables are securely connected to both the monitor and the computer.

2. Verify the Source:

  • Confirm that your computer or device is powered on and functioning properly.
  • If you're using a desktop computer, check that it's properly connected to power and turned on.
  • If you're using a laptop, make sure it's not in sleep mode or hibernation.

3. Check Windows settings

  • Right-click on the Desktop and select Display Settings
  • When you select each monitor displayed at the top of the new window does the dropdown right below say disconnect or show only on?
  • Make sure it states extend or duplicate.

4. Test Different Cables and Ports:

  • Try using different video cables (HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, etc.) to rule out a cable issue.
  • Test different video output ports on your computer or graphics card.

5. Restart the Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues. Restart your computer and see if the monitor starts displaying.

6. Check Monitor Inputs:

  • Some monitors have multiple input sources. Ensure that the correct input source is selected on the monitor's settings menu.
  • On a TV this is typically HDMI1, HDMI 1, cable, etc..on a monitor it will likely be HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort

7. Inspect for Physical Damage:

  • Examine the monitor for any visible physical damage, such as a cracked screen or damaged ports.

8. Monitor Reset:

  • Some monitors have a reset option in their settings menu. Try resetting the monitor to its default settings.

9. Contact Support:

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's time to reach out to IT for your monitor or computer.
